Vlažna područja predstavlјaju centre biološke raznovrsnosti i staništa raznovrsne, specifične flore i faune.

As part of the DaWetRest project, we celebrate February 2nd, World Wetlands Day (Ramsar Convention), which is celebrated every year in order to raise public awareness of the importance and protection of aquatic, wetland, and wet habitats and which emphasizes the need to urgently approaches to restoration of threatened wetlands and other habitats.

The Ramsar Convention on the Protection of Wetlands was adopted on February 2, 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar, and provides opportunities for international cooperation and activities at the national level with the aim of preserving and rationally using wetlands.

Almost 90% of the world's wetlands have been degraded in the last three hundred years, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. World Wetlands Day is an ideal moment to raise people's awareness of these critically important ecosystems. The Convention as swampy, wet areas includes: lakes and rivers, underground streams, ponds, swamps, wet grassy areas, swamps, oases, estuaries, deltas, mangroves, coastal areas, coral reefs, as well as localities created by human activity, such as ponds, rice fields, water reservoirs, salt marshes...

Wetlands represent centers of biological diversity and habitats of diverse, specific flora and fauna. They are essential for the survival of rare and endangered species of plants and animals (birds, fish, mammals...) that find their living space in or near water. However, these areas are also extremely important for man, because in many aspects they directly affect his survival. Wetlands are invaluable for life and economic development on Earth.
